3 Departments To Hold Festival

This year Maine West's "Festival of the Arts" will be held on Friday, May 8, in West's spectator gymnasium. The Festival will be divided into two performances: the day performance, to be held from 9 am. to 3 p.m., and the evening, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, jewelry, photography, and print making are only a few of the many media represented by the Art Department.

The Industrial Education Department will be represented by printing, advanced drafting, machine products, electronics, basic and advanced metals, and basic and advanced drawing.

An evening performance by Maine West's choir, band, and symphony orchestra will also be included through the Music Department.

The purpose of the Festival is to show students, parents, teachers, and the community the most outstanding and creative endeavors accomplished at Maine West during the year 1969‑1970 by students in the Art, Industrial Education, and Music Departments.

Great time and effort has gone into this exhibit and concert so that the final presentation will have a polished and professional dignity, according to Mr. George Blanas, Art Department chairman.

During the evening performance there will be professional artists exhibiting and demonstrating their own particular talents for the audience to see how an art piece is created.

Along with the Art Festival, the Art Department will also sponsor a "Flight Festival." This Festival will take place on Saturday, May 9, 1970, starting at 1 p.m. on the Maine West campus, according to Mr. Mark Mattson, Maine West art teacher.

"Ben Franklin got turned on by a kite‑so can you."

He encourages everyone to participate in this year's Festival, as there will be no contest and it will be "Just for fun!"

The Festival is open to all students, faculty, and the community, providing that the kites submitted to this Festival are original ideas and were not bought commercially.

Mr. Mattson, suggested as possibilities fighter kites, gliders, powered flyers, or, as he stated, "Anything that flies."

There is no entry fee, and prizes will be awarded for the most outstanding designs.
