The Maine West track team, who took the indoor track season conference title, is off to a slow start in the beginning of their outdoor season. Like all the other spring sports, the track team has been hampered by poor weather.
The track team has only had two meets in the last two weeks, and one of these was a triangular and the other was also a multi‑team meet. Both of these meets were on a Saturday.
With eight returning lettermen: Jeff Duff '71, Jim Fisher '70, Mark Henkes '70, Steve Johnson '70, Ken Kovar '71, Jerry Krainik '70, Mark Meyer '71, and Glen Parrotte '70, the Warriors took second in the P.L.M. Triangular at Maine West. P. stands for Palatine; L, for La Grange; and M for Maine West. La Grange took first.
Jerry Krainik was the only Maine West standout. winning his quarter‑mile event. The weather was cold, rainy, and very windy that day.

On Saturday, April 18, the Warriors participated in the Viking relay held at Niles North. The meet consisted of seven teams of which the Warriors came in third. Maine South came in first, and Prospect took second in this meet.
Delmar Hansen '70 made a very good individual effort by taking second in the high hurdles and first in the low hurdles. This was a very impressive performance and sparked the Warriors up to third.
Freshman Larry Franzen is a bright light in the prospects of Maine West. He runs hurdles and high jumps. On the sophomore team he wins; and when he goes down to the frosh level, he is a real standout.
Coming up will be a triangular with Glenbrook North and New Trier West on Tuesday, April 28 and a meet against Niles West and Glenbrook South at Glenbrook South.
