With summer coming many high school students are looking for summer employment. It is often a discouraging and seemingly useless experience to look for a job when few jobs are available. Mr. James Killam, career counselor at Maine West, gave some helpful advice for making job hunting more successful.
Mr. Killam suggested the Illinois State Employment Service at 601 Lee Street in Des Plaines as the best source for finding jobs. Mr. Killam also added that jobs are more scarce for teenagers this summer then they have been for the past few years. It is also easier for persons over 18 to get jobs than it is for those under 18.

The Daily Bulletin also announces some jobs; but if you miss the Bulletin, inquire in the Personnel Office or see Mr. Killam.
For girls there are also agencies where they can get temporary summer employment, but Mr. Killam stressed that the girls should find out whether there is a charge. When applying for a job, do not apply over the phone but arrange for an interview.
An interview often decides who gets the job if there is more than one applicant. Be politely aggressive when going after a job. Be neat and clean but not extravagantly dressed. All the rules of common courtesy apply.
