Girls Win Game 8-4:
Proclaimed Champs

By KATHY JORDAN

The girls were the winners of the Donkey Basketball game on May 2 in the Maine West gymnasium! There were two eight-minute halves and then a championship game between the two winners.

In the first game, Sue Kern galloped down court on her donkey and made a beautiful layup shot‑in the wrong basket!

Mary Young '71 spent the whole game playing hide‑and-seek with her donkey.

The most spirited donkey, named Spiro Agnew, was ridden first by Mr. Ken Lindquist and then by Mr. John Amason. Mr. Amason, obviously Republican, said, "Spiro was a fine donkey."

Another donkey, Who was rather bored with the game, decided to leave with one of the girls on his back. A friendly bystander, Bill Tillman '70, led him back to the action and set him straight.

Elmer Fudd, donkey, was ridden by Mr. Robert Cassidy, captain of the men's team. Mr. Harvey Kelber on Batman, Mr. Donald May on Super Stupid, and Mr. Ken Lindquist on Spiro Agnew completed the starting lineup.

For the girls it was Mary Young '71, captain, on Lady Bird, Joanne Klimek '71 on Thrick Dicky, Jan Roll '71 on Hercules, and Sue Kern '72 on Red Skeleton.

The final score of this game was 6‑2 in favor of the girls. At halftime there was a beauty contest for the donkeys. Hercules, the winner, was lovely in his powder blue tutu and was awarded a horseshoe of tissue flowers.

On the serious side Jill Whetham '71 sang as a slide show was presented. The show told about the Clearbrook Center for retarded children that is being built in Des Plaines. The profits of the basketball game and the other projects during the week will be donated to Operation Clearbrook.

In the second game the women faculty played the boys.

Miss Mae Jean Engen, Miss Royleen Tipton, Miss Ruth Nickelson, and Miss Mystery‑ Player were the faculty representatives.

The boys fought back with their starting four consisting of Mike Greene '71, Kevin Wright '72, Mark Courtois '71, and Mike Fairhead '71.

The score of this game, 4‑0 in favor of the boys, wasn't too exciting but the action was.

For example, Miss Nickelson loved playing so much that her donkey had to drag her off the court before she would leave.

Then the playoff game started between the boys and the girls. The girls led the whole game and handed the boys and their donkeys an 8‑4 defeat.
