'Westerner' Stall Ousted;
Class Take Over

By KATHY O'CONNELL

Somehow, amid much confusion, tension, and excitement during the journalism‑ class, the paper got out. Once a year the journalism class is allowed to compose one issue of the newspaper, which is called the Cub Edition, and this is it.

The journalism class usually just writes the stories while the Westerner staff does the rest of the work which includes choosing stories, fitting them on the pages, correcting errors, and finding places for all the necessary pictures on the pages. For this issue, the regular staff is allowed a rest, while the journalism class takes over' everything, for better or for worse.

Journalism students soon found that putting a school newspaper together isn't as easy as it looks. They can now understand why the regular staff gets so upset when stories are too short, tuned in late, or not turned in at all.

The journalism class meets sixth period every day to study the basic techniques of journalistic writing needed to put out a well‑written paper. Mr. George Walker teaches the class and is sponsor of the Westerner.

The students who made up the staff for this issue are Jill Fedder, page 1 editor; Linda Westerfeld, page 2 editor; Jane Spicer, page 3 editor; Pat Gleason, page 4 editor; Kathy Sime, art editor; and Kathy Jordan, exchange manager.

After working so hard on this issue of the paper, the journalism students are only too willing to give back their temporary jobs to the regular staff and start relaxing again.
