Golfers Improve On Both Levels

The Maine West Golfers teed off on their opponents to get the season into full swing. The varsity went up against New Trier West and were scheduled to battle Glenbrook South before the weather canceled it. They came out of the conflicts with a 3‑2 record. Gary Navratil '71 said, "We have a good chance of taking conference if we can only shoot consistently. Ed Duchaj '70 commented on the team's performance, "Bob Edwards '70 is shooting very well. But the rest of the team is a few strokes off its game."

Meanwhile the frosh-soph puttered along behind the efforts of Kurt Klein '72 and Jeff Potter '73. Steve Godlewski '72 remarked, "This year looks real

good. We have some really great freshmen in addition to a fine sophomore contigent." Tony Wherry '72 said, "It was said we had a worse team then last year, when we won only one meet. This year's team has two wins already.

All of the meets by both teams have been close. A few lucky strokes and an undefeated team on both levels could have been possible. The worst defeat suffered to date was an eight‑stroke shaving suffered by the lower level. The golfer's next meet is the district meet coming up tonight and tomorrow. They will then complete their dual schedule.
