The trackmen beat Maine South a few days ago 65‑63 becoming the one and only team this year to do so. Although the score seems to indicate that it was a close and dramatic meet, it wasn't that way at all.
The cindermen beat Maine South from the beginning until the end. There was never a question in the mind of anyone there. Jack St. John '72 started off the victory by gliding to a first place finish at the beginning of the meet. The middle parts of the meet were highlighted by Delmar Hansen's '70 two usual first place finishes in the high and low hurdles.
The meet was topped off by Grant Pick '70 who jumped six ft. but only took a second place. The jump was a lifetime high for Grant. The only person who was uncertain of a victory was Coach Joseph Jobst who was noticed nervously keeping a watch on the score while his cool‑headed team picked up their first outdoor season win.

Next on the list for the fired-up Warriors was the Waukegan Relays held at Waukegan High School. Since the Warriors had had a poor start in the outdoor, season, they were not expected to place very high, but the cindermen pulled up with a surprisingly great second place finish.
When Grant Pick was asked if he thought that the Warriors' second place finish was surprising, he stated, "I don't know. I don't know what is happening to me."
The cindermen then beat Glenbrook North and New Trier West in a triangular meet at Maine West. After this meet Delmar Hansen was asked if he expected Maine West to keep up its fine pace. Delmar said, "I don't know. I don't know what's happening to me."
Districts are coming up soon, and Maine West is expected to do better this time than ever before.
