MW Historical Society
Initiates Members

On Wednesday, May 13, the Maine West Historical Society held its annual tea in L‑106. At this time, the five students receiving the highest scores on the History Honors Exam (given on Monday, May 4, in C‑201 after school) were presented with certificates.

These certificates were presented by Mrs. Ragnar, Americanism Chairman of the DAR. The five students were Charlotte Ariano, Jon Baldo, Jerry Thain, Bill Knowles, and Doug Lauffenburger, all juniors.

These five took an essay test for further screening and the person earning the highest score on that will receive a

medal. In addition to this medal, the winner will also be awarded a $25 savings bond, donated by Tri-S.

Out of over 200 students taking the exam, those 36 pupils making the highest scores were made members of the Maine West Historical Society, according to Mr. Dewane Barnes, Maine West history teacher and Historical Society sponsor.

The initial exam consisted of 108 multiple choice questions. These questions dealt with the colonial period through Franklin Roosevelt's administration and his "New Deal" policy.
