The new varsity cheerleaders are Sandy Beyer '72, Sue Black '71, Carol Gigante '72, Sally Lino '72, Aida Matus '72, JoDee Rowells '72, Diane Sachetti '71, and Jill Whetham '71. Chosen as captain and co‑captain are Diane and Jill, respectively.

Chosen to be on the junior-varsity squad for 1970-71 are Debbie Brown '71, Cathy Collins '72, Mary Beth Krowka '72, Jenny Jobst '72, Sharon Lanham '72, and Norma Voss '71. The captain and co-captain of the new squad are Debbie and Jenny.

Cindy Brodie '73, Jan Gibbert '73, Claire Robertson '73, Gwen Russel '73, Carol Webster '73, and Terry Wora '73 constitute the new sophomore cheerleading squad for '70‑'71. Awarded the positions of captain and cocaptain were Gwen and Terry.

The girls were judged on jumps, pep, smile, appearance, voice, splits, and stunts. The stunts were optional for the sophomore squads, but could be performed for bonus points. The judges were Mrs. Nancy Kerby, the new cheerleading sponsor; Mrs. Ramona McCoun, last year's sponsor; Joe Jung '70, M‑Club president; and this year's senior squad members.

Participation in cheerleading tryouts has been declining. Only 25 girls participated in the varsity tryouts. Thirteen tried out for the junior varsity, and 30 girls tried out for the sophomore squad. The larger number of the sophomore girls may show a growth in interest.
