The diamondmen suffered their worst loss of the season on Monday, May 18. To add to the misery it was also the first game of the Illinois State Baseball Tournament.
The Warriors are now eliminated from the play‑off because of the loss. They lost at the hands of the Nies West Indians.
The final score was 10‑0. The game only lasted five innings because of a play‑off rule that if a team is ahead by 10 or more runs at the end of five innings the game is over.
Bill Besenhofer '71 started for the Warriors. Bill gave up three runs in the first inning and then four more in the second. The Warriors couldn't get their offense to pose a threat.
Trailing 7‑0 in the third, Bill managed to hold the Indians scoreless. In the bottom of the third the Warriors once again failed to get a hit.

Besenhofer was taken out after getting into a little trouble with one out in the fourth. His relief pitcher was Bill Olsen '70. Olsen finished the game allowing three runs in the final two innings.
There was only one home run in the game, and that was a powerful blast over the center field fence hit by the Indians' third baseman.
The diamondmen didn't get a hit for the first four innings. The only Warrior hit was with one out in the fifth, when Mike Maloney '70 hit a single down the third base line. His hit was quickly erased by a game ending double‑play.
On Monday the Warriors lost a game, but earlier in the week they received a moral victory. The decision on the disputed Niles West game was in favor of the diamondmen. The game is to be replayed on a date to be announced later.
