The Maine West cross country team rushed through the last half of their conference schedule with a 5‑0 record.
In the October 17 conference ‑ runoff the Harriers dropped the league crown to Maine South 25‑49. The Maine West Warriers took the number two and four spots with Steve Johnson '70 taking second and Ken Kovar '71 finishing fourth. The Frosh‑Soph, winning conference behind the running of Dan Long '72 and Dean Kamin '72, brightened the day.
Four days earlier the varsity runners crushed Niles West 15‑50. Johnson broke Bob Glitz's 1969 old course record. The frosh‑soph took their meet 16‑47.
October 10, the varsity beat New Trier West 17‑46. The lower level also won 16‑48. Previous to that, the top legmen overran Niles North 15‑50. Their "little brothers" won again by a score of 15‑50. In yet an earlier meet, the blue, gold, and white emerged victorious over Glenbrook North by a 19‑42 margin.

Frosh‑soph runners again outran their counterparts from Northbrook 18‑44. Facing Glenbrook North by a 19‑42 margin. powered the Titans 18‑42. The '72‑'73 runners took a win home 15‑50. Before all this, the varsity runners beat Deerfield 27‑30, while the frosh‑soph harriers were victorious 17‑46.
Now in progress are the regional tournaments. Leading off this string was the Libertyville Invitational held there last Tuesday. This meet was open to the top runners of all levels.
Today the junior varsity travels to Glenbrook North for their tournament. The contest will be held at 4 p.m. At the same time, the Niles North Invitational, restricted to freshmen and sophomores, will be held.
Tomorrow, while Homecoming festivities are held here, the top runners from the varsity will compete in the district meet. This is an elimination round for the state finals to be held at the University of Illinois on November 1.
