To become involved in today's activities and current situations is the student's privilege. Becoming aware and involved is an important part of being a responsible student.
Student Council has formed a committee to work with Mr. Glenn Hoffmann, chairman of the Social Science Department to set up forums.
A forum is a place where students are allowed to express their views on a variety of relevant subjects. These forums will be held in L‑101 during ninth period and after school. It has been decided that there will be separate presentations ninth period and after school.
November 12 is the date set for the first forum. The subject will be the draft and will presented by four student speakers with different views. The views will include: draft lottery, volunteer army, compulsory service for all citizens, and present policies.

Other subjects which will be presented in future forums will include: dress code, conspiracy trial, grade abolishment, legalization of marijuana, and registration of firearms.
The forums will tentatively be held every two weeks.
Outside speakers such as SDS members, clergy, and others pertaining to the subject are also the hopes for future forums.
The future of the forums depends on the participation of interested Maine West students. These forums are for the students' benefit and can only succeed with your support.
