The gymnasts started out the season disappointingly by losing their first two meets. They lost to West Leyden on Friday, December 5, and to state champion Arlington on Saturday, December 6. Both of these teams were very tough competition.
All‑around man Rich Dancaster '70 was injured in practice and was not up to his best performance. Once his sprained ankle is healed he will help the team greatly.
On Friday, December 5, at West Leyden the Warriors opened their season. They lost 82 to 65. Individual performances saw Tony Kurtz '70 and Bob Gillespie '70 taking seconds on the tramp and highbar respectively. Kurtz scored a 6.2 while Gillespie had a 5.3. Bob McNabb '70 took a first in the free‑x event with a 5.3 score.

In the meet against Arlington on Saturday, December 6, Maine lost 117 to 65. Arlington was last year's state champions and they have many returning lettermen. Their ability is exhibited by their high score.
On the frosh‑soph level Maine West beat West Leyden by the score of 26 to 23. On Saturday they also lost to Arlington 66 to 32.
The second home meet of the year will be on Tuesday, December 9, against Oak Park at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, December 13, the gymnasts will travel to Hersey for a meet at 2 p. m.
On Friday, December 19, the musclemen take on Proviso West here at Maine at 4:30 p.m. To round off December's activities the gymnasts are in the Thornridge Invitational at Thornridge on Tuesday, December 30.
When asked about this year's team, senior Tony Kurtz commented, "We lack depth."
