Swimmers Beat Maine South After
Loss to Glenbrook

On December 19 Maine West's varsity swim team lost at the hands of Glenbrook South. The score was 60‑35.

Although we lost the meet, Head Coach Pete Andersen pointed out some fine individual performances.

"Tom Peterson '70 had his best time in the 200‑yard and 400‑yard freestyle, and Lance Kuntze '70 turned in his best time in the 100‑yard breast stroke," said Coach Andersen. "Steve Dueball '72 also turned in his best time in the 100‑yard breast stroke."

When Mr. Andersen was asked if he used any special strategy, he said he used Skip Parent '71 against Glenbrook's strongest man.

"We tried Skip against their strongest man in the 200‑yard freestyle. Skip did a fine job but lost by one‑tenth of a second."

The sophomores once again came out on top, 52‑43. They have not yet suffered a loss.

On December 12 it was a different story, with the tankmen winning a thriller against Maine South 50‑45.

According to Russ Zage '71, "There were no outstanding individual performances, but with a full team effort we managed to come out on top."

Scott Gyssler '71 gave some reasons why it was such a close meet.

"I think Maine South tapered for our meet, and they were out to beat us. On the other hand, we were preparing for our meets with Glenbrook and Deerfield.

"If we had tapered for South, it wouldn't have been that close," Scott then added.

The sophomores came out on top, 62‑33. Mr. Andersen pointed out that Dave Dettman '72 did a fine job in the freestyle. He also said that the breast strokers did a fine job.
