Intramurals

The 1970‑71 Intramural program is better than ever before. It has many activities that will benefit the students greatly.

Many students have the idea that intramurals pay no attention to class, but actually almost all competition is held on class basis.

Intramurals sponsor tournaments in various sports and awards patches to the members of the winning teams.

Intramurals have already begun, with golf and tennis starting earlier this week. Among the activities between now and November are golf, tennis, flag football, cross‑country, and possibly, in October, water polo.

Intramurals is not only open to those interested in participating in competitive sports. Those boys interested in practicing at different sports may come after school. Right now and through October they have open basketball, wrestling, and gymnastics. These are held in A‑wing gym and the main gym.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays there is an open swim.

To make the competition mean more, intramurals offers eight trophies, two for each class, for the most successful and most active boy in intramurals over the year.

Coach Miley Hotchkiss is the head of intramurals. He is doing all he can to make it a great organization for the students at Maine West.
