During an assembly on Wednesday, March 10, 13 sophomore girls were elected to be pictured on the 1971‑72 Student Council Calendar.
Gwen Russell was chosen as cover girl, because she received the most votes. The other girls chosen were Mary Badlamente, Chris Johannsen, Diane Jonasson, Cindy Brodie, Mary Foote, Pat Fife, Laurie Bachman, Carol Lutz, Sara Manny, Lori Rowells, Rosie Finnis, and Terri Worra.
Before the assembly, each sophomore Student Council representative held nominations in their homerooms. One girl was chosen from the homeroom, and one from the Sophomore Class at large. There were 42 girls altogether. They were put on a preliminary ballot. Out of the 42 girls, 26 were chosen to be finalists and to be in the assembly.
During the assembly, each girl walked out on stage and was introduced to the sophomore audience by Paulette Jados, chairman of Public Relations Committee of Student Council. This committee is in charge of calendar girls each year.

During homeroom on Monday, March 15, there was an announcement made telling of the newly elected girls. The girls went to the Student Council Office, where they were given a colored carnation. Gwen received a corsage of red roses and white carnations. Pictures were taken immediately after each of the girls received their flowers.
A meeting was held Wednesday to decide which month each of the girls will represent. They picked the months at random.
All ballots were counted by Paulette Jados. Pictures will be taken by Steve Forkins '71. They will be taken some time in the future. No close‑ups are going to be taken this year as in other years.
Poses for the pictures are chosen by the girl herself. They may be in any type of attire she wishes and in any setting and pose. Calendars should be out by the beginning of the next school year.
