Six MW Girls Model In Simplicity Show

Sue Miller '72, Kathy Sherman '73, Betty Sloan '72, Linda Milke '72, Kathy Bruhn '71, and Jan Berendesen '72 were chosen to model Simplicity fashions in a recent fashion show, which was held for the home economics teachers in the Chicagoland area in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Chicago Hotel.


Friday, March 12, 1971, was designated as Maine West High School Music Boosters Day through a proclamation made by Mayor Herbert Behrel.

Mayor Behrel recommended this year's musical, "The Sound of Music," saying that "This production is not only excellent family entertainment, but a wonderful opportunity for development of numerous arts, crafts, and skills among the large number of students involved in double cast performances." Mayor Behrel also commented that "The proceeds of this endeavor will be to further the musical education of the students by scholarships and special projects


Kurt Klein '72, a member of the Maine West varsity debate team, is the second Maine West student to achieve his Degree of Distinction, which is the highest award available to a high school debater. Kurt received his award from the National Forensic League of Ripon, Wisconsin.

Kurt achieved this accomplishment by earning 250 debate points in competition with debaters from other high schools. As a result of this award, Kurt is now eligible to compete in the National Forensic League finals to be held in March at Evanston High School.

"54 Heads," an arrangement composed by Maine West music instructor, Mr. Jake Jerger, was played by six Maine West drummers at the Junior Achievement Trade Fair, which was held at the International Amphitheater last week. The students were Mark Enggas '71, Tom Hinds '72, Rick Neetz '71, Jan Jarvis '71, Tom O'Connell '72, and Jeff Goodey '72.


Four girls have been selected to serve on the Wieboldt's Teen Fashion Board. The girls are Pat Fiedler '73, Pat Fife '73, Kathy Helwig '73, and Betty Sloan '72. The girls, who serve on the board for one year, were chosen after a series of auditions.


Frances Kuecker '72 and Anna Loska '72 have been announced as the co‑winners of the "Faces in American History" contest, sponsored by Tri‑S Both correctly identified 81 out of the 100 faces. They will share the prize, which is a $25 savings bend.
