Cast Prepares for Opening Night

CHERIE WITTBOLD '71 ‑ While maintaining an A average, she has still found time to take the lead of Maria, just one of the numerous activities Cherie has participated in. Besides her involvement in many phases of music department academic programs, she has performed in ANNIE, PAJAMA GAME, and numerous Footlighter productions. Her club activities include Thespians, Iota Chi Sigma, NFL, and Sigma Chi Sigma, and has won many speech awards and was crowned Des Plaines Junior Miss. Her future plans include a major in drama or communications at Illinois Wesleyan University.

NANCY SPEIGLER '71 ‑ Becoming Maria adds one more credit to her long list of well rounded musical activities. She has participated in ANNIE, V-Show, I.M.E.A. District Festival, and Choraliers. Her extra school interests include playing the piano, guitar, swimming, and the church choir. Honors and awards she has received are for the I.M.E.A. District Festival, senior leader, the Pep club and GRA awards. Nancy's future plans include attending Knox College for majors in biology and music.

DOUG KUITE '71 ‑ He has been active in many phases of music and drama and is culminating his senior year by obtaining one if the leads ‑ Captain George von Trapp. His activities of the past four years include Concert Band, Concert Orchestra, Concert Choir, Chorailers, Show Band, V‑Show, Marching Band, ANNIE, PAJAMA GAME, BIRDIE, and the Footlighters LIFE WITH FATHER. Numerous honors and awards include the A and B honor rolls, drum major, Tri‑M, piano awards, first place in the Stage Band Festival, Sigma Chi Sigma, Thespian Society and Band Staff. Doug is as of yet uncertain into which branch of the music field he will enter.

MIKE MAXA '71 - Becoming Captain von Trapp is just one of his many activities. He has been in Concert Choir, V-Show, Sitting Bull in ANNIE, and the telephone repairman in BAREFOOT in the PARK. With all these interests he has still found time to be a member of a folk and rock group, and Student Council vice‑president. His honors include a biology award, National Merit Scholarship letter of recommendation and Merits Who's Who among American High School Students. Mike intends to enroll in Northern Illinois University and study pre‑law, for a possible future in politics.

MATTHEW O'GRADY '73 ‑ His school interests in music and drama are very well used in his portrayal of Friederich. His other activities have included the Boys' Chorus, Concert Choir and ANNIE. He has received a science award and has been on the honor roll. His future will include his present interests of drama and music or possibly teaching.

MARJI CAMERON '71­- Added to her list of credits which include Concert Band, V‑ Show, BIRDIE, PAJAMA  GAME, ANNIE, Jazz Band and             the Woodwind Quintet, she has won the role of Liesl. Her outside activities and awards include sewing, Pep Council, Tri‑M, the winning combo at the Jazz Festival and the Superior Combo. Marji plans to attend Northern Illinois University for a major in music.

DIANA PETERSON '72 ‑ A love of music has prompted her to join Band for three years and play in ANNIE. Now, this love has lead her to try for Marta, in the musical. Her many other interests include horseback riding, swimming, flute and piano. Diana intends to go to college and is seriously considering a musical career.

BARBARA BRIDWELL '73 - As Marta, she is taking another step towards her future plans which could possibly include acting, Spanish interpreter, music teacher or becoming a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In preparation for any one of these fields, Barbara is taking Spanish 111, Drama 11, and has been involved in orchestra, Girls' Glee and ANNIE.

SUE WINKLEMAN '73 ‑ Besides portraying Liesl, she is busy being involved in Girls' Chorus, Ensemble, and Glee. Her interests include piano, sewing, reading, sports activities, and cooking. Honors and awards include the A honor roll, Jaycees Honorable Mention Award, and an excellent rating in the Solo and Ensemble Festival on the piano. Sue's future will include teaching history.

KATIE YOUNG '71 ‑ Besides her other musical activities which include Girls' Chorus and Glee, Concert Choir, ANNIE, and V‑Show, she is portraying Brigitta in the musical. Katie's outside interests include piano, guitar, Ski, Pep, and Spanish clubs. She is planning to work in the business world after graduation.

DEBRA BECK '72 ‑ As Brigitta, she adds one more role to her list of credits in various Maine West V‑Shows and ANNIE. Debbie has also been in Band, Girls' Choir, Ensemble, and Glee, and Concert Choir. Debbie intends to teach history at a college in Colorado and possibly perform singing somewhere.

KURT FITZGERALD '73 ‑ Added to his previous list of credits which include ANNIE, V‑Show, SKIN OF OUR TEETH, and Footlighters, one more credit may be added, that of Kurt. One of his other school activities include Iota Chi Sigma where he competes in individual events. Through this he was awarded third place for I.E. Honorable Mention Award for being in LADY ON THE ROCK, in duet acting. Bob plans to become an advertising artist after graduation.

SUE SPIEGLER '74 ‑ In the musical, she portrays Louisa, one of the children. Her other activities include Girls' Chorus, guitar, swimming, and Class Council. With all this Sue still manages to maintain a B average. Her future will include college.

CINDY BRODIE '73‑She has been very involved in many of the school activities which include Girls' Chorus, Glee, and Ensemble, ANNIE, and now she is Louisa in this musical. Her other interests include cheerleading, GRA, swimming, tennis, Tri‑M, and a possible career in elementary school teaching.

KATHY LA SPINA '71 – Being chosen Gretl is just another one of her accomplishments in music. She has been involved in Girls' Chorus and Glee, Concert Choir, V-Show, PAJAMA GAME, and ANNIE. Her other activities include Thespian Society, art, swimming, Tn-S and! the B honor roil. Kathy plans to attend nursing school upon completion of high school.

DEBBIE SCHLADT '73 – She has the role of Gretl in the musical. Her other activities include the Church Choir, Girls' Chorus and Glee, ANNIE, and SKIN OF OUR TEETH. Besides these Debbie enjoys reading, riding and swimming.

BEN ADAIR '72 ‑ As Max Detweiler, he adds one more credit to his list of accomplishments which include Concert Choir, Choraliers, all State Choir, Reader's Theatre, V‑ Show, ANNIE, and PAJAMA GAME. His outside interests include skiing, reading and art. A future career in college with either a drama or art major are part of Ben's future plans.

RON MORRIS '71 ‑ Being new to our school he brings with him an impressive list of credits in music. He was in the All‑City High School Choir for one year, won first place in competition in SPOTLIGHT ON TALENT, and second place solo award in All City Choir. His interests include six years of guitar and anything dealing with music and drama. Ron plans to attend Winston Churchill Music College.

JEANNE MILLER '71 ‑ Being picked as the Mother Abbess is one more step towards her college major in applied voice at Saint Norbert College. In preparing for this career in music, she has participated in many phases of‑ West's music programs wich include Girls' Chorus and Glee, Concert Choir, ANNIE, and Choraliers. With all this participation she has been able to make the B honor roll.

RENE HOEKSTRA '71 ‑ She has been very musically involved during her four years at West. These include Girls' Choir, Girls' Glee, Concert Choir, Choraliers, ANNIE, PAJAMA GAME, V‑Show, SKIN OF OUR TEETH, and V‑Show Director. Her outside interests include music, being an active senior leader, and vice‑president of Thespian Society. Her future plans include a college education in elementary education.

SUE WIESE '71 ‑ Becoming Student Director is just one of her many musical and dramatic accomplishments. In culminating her four years at Maine, Sue has participated in Girls' Chorus and Glee, and Concert Choir. In the area of drama she has taken both Drama 1 and II, participated in V‑Show, ANNIE, and Reader's Theatre. She belongs to Iota Chi Sigma, and Thespian Society, among others and is an Illinois State Scholar. Her future will include Valparaiso University for a major in speech and drama.
