On February 26, Warrior Bruce Beam '71 and Coach Dick Carlini traveled to Champaign-Urbana for the Illinois State wrestling finals. In his first round match at 105 pounds, Beam had no trouble whatsoever, as he shut out Mark Kornblau of Deerfield 3‑0. Beam then faced the eventual second place finisher in the state, Dave Dodge of Reavis, and lost a real heartbreaker to Dodge, 9‑8. By losing, Beam was eliminated from further state competition. |
As a team the Maine West varsity wrestlers ended their 1970‑71 season with an overall record of three wins and nine defeats and a conference record in the Central Suburban League of one win and six losses. |
