Tom Jackson '71, side horse man for Maine West, went to the State Finals March 12. Jackson qualified for state by placing tenth in sectional competition. Jackson scored in the 5's in preliminaries Friday night at Addison Trails.
Maine West went down fighting in the sectional meet at Elk Grove High School March 4 and 5. Although Jackson was the sole man who qualified for state, each man made an effort to hit their routines.
High scores turned in were a 6.7 in free exercise by Steve Schwab '72 and an average of 7.35 for top man Tom Jackson.

Other high averages for Maine West were juniors Steve Holmbeck's 5.15 on horizontal bar and John Leer's 6.75 on trampoline. All‑around man Rich Dancaster '71 scored 6.55 on parallel bars and 6.8 on still rings.
In district competition the gymnasts cropped in the scores to manipulate second place February 26 at Addison Trails.
Dean Koltz '71, newly promoted to second all‑around man, worked on side horse, high bar, parallel bar, rings, and free exercise. Koltz scored high on high bar bringing in a 7.9 to capture first place. Dancaster, first all‑around man, placed third on high bar with a 6.8. Dancaster also was highest scorer on parallel bars where he achieved a 7.01. He also turned in a 7.7 on rings.
