AFS Organizes International Club

Student Council AFS Committee and the Des Plaines Adult Committee have been working to form an International Club at Maine West. The club invites foreign students and anyone who is interested in foreign languages to join.

Two meetings have been held to arrange the bake sale that took place after school on Tuesday, April 14. The club will meet once a month.

Many countries are represented in the student body of Maine West. Students come from Mexico, Spain, and the Ukraine. Students also come from places such as Germany, Japan, and Greece.

Spanish Club, German Club, and Tri-S are helping to organize the club. The club still has no sponsor and needs to

send a constitution to Student Council for a charter. Regardless of the things left to do, interest has been shown by the 25 students who attended the two meetings.

The International Club and The Des Plaines Adult Committee will choose the students for the Americans Abroad program. Donna Musselman '71, AFS Committee Chairman, said, "I think the club will help students from different countries to make new friends and discuss some of their problems such as language barriers."

The club, open to the student body was described as "designed to bring foreign students together and make them feel more of a part of Maine West" by Mr. Randall Rayborn.
