Maine West finally opened their 1971 golf season on Wednesday, April 14 with a non‑conference meet against the Prospect Knights under new Head Coach Ken Olson. The meet was scheduled for April 1 on the Warriors home course, which is Golden Acres Country Club in Roselle; however, the bad weather postponed the meet until April 14.
The Warrior golfers lost to Prospect 170‑186. Warrior Gary Navratil '71 was low man for Maine West with a score of 41. Jim Krumpolz '71 and Tom Dorsey '71 had scores of 46; Russ Smith '71 shot a 52; and Gene Rydzinski '71 added a 55.
On April 15 the Warrior golfers hosted the Forest View Falcons in a non‑conference meet. Maine West defeated Forest View 169‑174 to even their overall record at 1‑1. Warrior Randy Getsla '71 had the lowest score of the meet, a 38. Gary Navratil had a 43; Russ Smith and Tom Dorsey each shot a 44; and Jim Krumpolz turned in a 45.

Last Friday the Maine West varsity golfers traveled to Wheeling for a non‑conference meet. Maine West lost to the tough Wheeling Wildcats 162‑170. Randy Getsla led the Warriors as he fired a 41. Gary Navratil, Russ Smith, and Tom Dorsey each added 43's; and Jim Krumpolz posted a 47. The loss gave the Warriors an overall record of 1‑2.
This afternoon Maine West will travel to Elk Grove for a non‑conference meet at 3:30. On Monday, April 26, the Warriors will open conference p 1 a y against arch‑rivals Maine South at South. On Monday, May 3, the Warrior golf team will be at Niles West for a conference meet; and on Thursday, May 6, Maine West will be on the road once again at Deerfield, also for a conference meet.
