Intramurals

Numerous individuals and teams have been crowned champions in basketball, free throw shooting, weightlifting, and table tennis. Commenting on the intramural season, Coach Miley Hotchkiss feels, "The over‑all turnout and ability of the students is superior to any level in years past.''

In a single elimination tournament in basketball, Coach Hotchkiss crowned Coach Don Olson's second period class as freshman champs. The winning team consisted of George Giovanni, Ernie Wickstrom, Bob Sperling, Leon Doerfeld, Greg Overman, Jim Froelich, and Stu Martin.

Rick Kehe reigned as senior free‑throw champ by edging out Fred Martens. Junior Dean Kamin defeated Sherwin Canterbury for the junior crown. By defeating Tom Raasch, Garyt Dahl won the sophomore table tennis championship. On the freshman level Mark Siska outlasted runner‑up Mike Gallucci.

Weightlifting competition enjoyed one of its largest turnouts in Maine West's history. The senior level saw Mark Courtois reign as champion and Dave Dadabo as runner‑up. John Teruggi won the junior competition with Leon Popowski filling in the runner‑up position.

Sophomore Tom Raasch won his level while Dave Wilson came in second. Rick Siegfort bowed to Tom Crawford in the freshman competition.

Upcoming events will include volleyball and softball in May.
