Netmen Underway,
Shut Out Wilowbrook

On Saturday, April 3, the varsity tennis team opened the season with a fourth place finish in their own Invitational Quadrangular. In the‑ first dual meet against Willowbrook on April 6 the varsity shut them out by a score of 5‑0. In the first singles match Steve Jackson '71 defeated his opponent 7‑9, 6‑1, and 6‑3. Doug Lauffenburger '71 in the second singles also defeated his opponent 6‑1 and 6‑3.

Then John Ferraiolo '72 won by default over Roy Deans of Willowbrook. The first doubles team of Rick Neetz '71 and Mark Dombrowski '71 followed with a 6‑0, 6‑2 victory over Ken Brinker and Mike Holland of Willowbrook. The second doubles team of Matt Rusch '72 and Jon

Richards '72 closed out the victory with a 6‑1, 6‑2 win over Willowbrook's pair. On the frosh‑soph level the netmen came in second in the Quadrangular on April 3 and blanked Willowbrook 5‑0.

Against Prospect on Thursday, April 8, the varsity tennis team suffered its first loss of the season 5-0. In the first singles Jackson lost to Prospect's Steve Collin 2-6, 6-3, and 3-6. Rick Neetz then lost 1-6, 1-6 in the second singles and Ferraiolo in the third singles by the score

of 7-5, 7-5. In the first doubles Lauffenburger and Dombrowski lost to Prospect's Jeff Muridian and Dave Risteen 2-6, 2-6.

Richards and Rusch also lost 2‑6, 4‑6 in the second doubles. Meanwhile, the frosh‑soph beat Prospect 3‑2. John Anderson '73, Steve Wild '73, and Jim Lauffenburger '74 each won their singles.

In the meet against Lake Park on April 14 the varsity won 3‑2. Ferraiolo started with a 6‑4, 6‑4 victory in the thrid singles followed by a first doubles victory by Lauffenburger and Neets 6‑0, 6‑3. In the second doubles the team of Anderson and Rusch won 5‑7, 10‑8, and 6‑2.

On April 15 the varsity hosted Niles East and lost 3‑2. Ferraiolo won in the third singles 4‑6, 8‑6, and 6‑4, while Rusch and Anderson won the second doubles 6‑2, 6‑4. On Saturday, April 17, the varsity netmen hosted Maine East, Forest View, and Glenbard East.

Against Maine East the varsity won 4‑1. Jackson's singles victory, a forfeit, and a win in both doubles provided the victory.
