Reporters Take Over Annual
Cub Edition

By LYNN MEADOWS

The journalism class' annual festival of nerves is over. This year's Cub Edition of the Westerner is out.

Every year the students in the journalism classes do all the work. They set up and sweat over one edition of the paper. This is the end result.

The journalism classes meet every second and sixth period in R‑210. They usually write the stories and do the legwork for every edition, but in this issue they worked on every aspect of the Westerner's production. Journalism offers the fundamental knowledge necessary to produce a well planned, interesting newspaper.

Kathy Jordan '72 and Lynn Heiden '73 were the editor‑in-chief and assistant editor, respectively. Kathy said that she was really happy with the way things went on the Cub Edition. Kathy added, "The kids received practical experience in exchange for their new ideas. I was glad that so many students chose this way of improving the paper rather than privately grumbling about it."

Mr. George Walker, adviser, explained the Cub Edition by saying, "The purpose of the Cub Edition is to permit applicants for next year's staff to have some experience under the guidance of the present staff. This also aids in determining which students will get which positions on the Westerner next year.
