Varsity Track Team Beats
GB, Deerfield

The Warriors traveled to Prospect on April 20 for the Prospect Invitational. The varsity finished fourth out of the 12 teams entered.

Jack St. John '71 and Ken Kovar '71 got the cindermen off to a great start with a first and a third in the two‑mile. St. John also captured a second in the mile. Mike Pruitt '71 :placed third in the pole vault and fifth in the low hurdles. Wayne Gyssler '71 picked up a second in the pole vault.

The 220‑yard dash found the Warriors picking up two places. Jeff Duff '71 and Tom Zabroske '71 grabbed third and fifth. The 880‑yard relay team of Howie Koontz '72, Duff, Jerry Thain '71, and Zabroske placed fifth.

Competing in the Fourteenth Annual Waukegan Relays on April 24, the varsity finished a strong fourth. Fifteen teams were entered.

Kovar and Kevin Wright '72 gave the Warriors four quick points with a third and fifth in the two-mile. The high hurdle shuttle relay and the low hurdle shuttle relay, comprised of Kevin Terry '71, Pruitt, Larry Franzen '73, and Bill Klippert '74, took a third in the lows and

a fourth in the highs. The 440-yard relay of Koontz, Duff, Thain, and Zabroske grabbed a fourth. Scott Gyssler '71, Tom Duntemann '71, Dave Farmer '72, and Tim Watkins '71, composed the two-mile relay team which captured a fifth. Duff, a contender for the state title in the long jump, picked up a first.

April 20 found the cindermen capturing their first triangular meet of the outdoor season. Maine trounced Glenbrook South 85‑56 and‑ Deerfield 85‑31.

Kovar picked up a first in the two‑mile and Wright grabbed a third. Gyssler and Duntemann grabbed first and second in the mile. Duntemann also captured a first in the 880‑yard run. Watkins placed third.

The high hurdles found Pruitt and Terry taking a second and a third. Pruitt and Terry also finished second and fourth in the low hurdles. Duff took a first in the 100‑yard dash and a first in the long jump. Duff and Gyssler grabbed a third and fourth in the high jump. Mark Mayer '71 and Rick Hildreth '73 took a second and fourth in the shotput.
