Maybe you noticed those lucky kids flying kites a few weeks ago during seventh and eighth periods. It was the aerospace‑physics kite fly‑off.
Aerospace came out ahead seventh period. Vern Wilson '71 took two contests. He won the best design award for a purple and gold pyramid kite. Vern also won the contest entitled "kite to fly highest in three minutes." Stan Bednar '72 won the stability contest with a diving see‑through kite.

Physics did come through with the "largest kite to fly." Diane Ehorn '72 had a large glider kite which wouldn't stay off the ground for the required two minutes. So Wayne Gyssler '72, Don Hudson '72, and Paul Witkay '72 helped out. They ran down the field for two minutes, with the kite 15 feet off the ground. Steve Dueball '72 also helped out by letting the kite land on him after the contest. Don and Wayne later disposed of the kite by landing it in a car.
Physics and aerospace tied eighth period. Anna Loska '72 won the "biggest kit to fly contest" and the "best design contest" for physics, with a confederate flag kite. Ken Freer '71 won "kite to fly highest in three minutes," and Alan Divito '72 won the stability contest for aerospace.
