Stickmen 'Challenge Tough Competitors

Lately, the Maine West varsity golfers have been improving their scores; however, they've been playing tough teams in the Central Suburban League Conference. They have yet to win a conference meet, and they have five defeats. Overall the Maine West stickmen are 4‑7.

In the Fenton Districts at White Pines Country Club last Friday, Maine West finished eighth out of 14 teams with 342 strokes on the 18‑hole course. Prospect won the Fenton Districts with a score of 311.

No Warriors qualified for seetionals. Russ Smith '71 led West with an 86. Gary Navratil '71, Randy Getsla '71, and Paul Witkay '72 each shot an 88; and Jim Krumpolz '71 posted a 91.

On Tuesday, May 11, Maine West lost a heartbreaker to Glenbrook North by one stroke, 166‑167. Navratil and Krumpolz shared the honors for the Warriors each shooting a 41. Smith turned in a 42; Getsla shot a 43; and Tom Dorsey '71 added a 44.

The Warriors hosted the tough Glenbrook South Titans on Monday, May 10. Glenbrook South defeated Maine West 158‑167. Navratil led West with a two over par 38. Getsla fired a 40; Krumpolz posted a 42, and Dorsey and Smith soared to a 47 and 48 respectively.
