Seniors will receive their diplomas at the twelfth annual Commencement Exercises, which will take place on June 9 at 8 p.m. in the spectator gymnasium.
The class will be escorted by the Junior Honor Guard, composed of the junior members of the National Honor Society. The processional will be "Coronation March" from "The Prophet" and the "Grand March" from "Aida." They will be played on the organ by Mr. James Thunder, Jr.
Reverend Allen Fedder of Immanuel Lutheran Church will then give the Invocation. He will be followed by Mr. Herman Rider who will introduce the Senior Class president, Dave Arnswald. Dave will then present the salutatorians, Mark Bergquist and Doug Lauffenburger, and the valedictorian, Jon Baldo, who will give their original commencement addresses.
After the speeches, watches honoring 25 years of service at Maine will be presented to Mr. Rider and Mr. Robert Cochrane, chairman of the Industrial Education Department. Dr. Richard Short, Superintendent of Maine Township High School District 207, will present the Class of 1971 to be accepted by Mr. William Wuehrmann, president of the Board of Education.

Mr. George Walker, Jr. and Mr. John Graef will read the names of the graduates as the students are given their diplomas by various Board members: Messrs. Michael Bartos, Roy Makela, John Means, and William Wuehrmann. The Alma Mater will be sung and the class will march out to "March of the Priests" and "Pomp and Circumstance."
The Maine scholars will be recognized at the Commencement. They are the top 12 people in their class. They are Jonathan Baldo, Shari Barrett, Mark Bergquist, David Carl, Mark Dombrowski, Kate Evans, Jill Fedder, Christine Kron, Douglas Lauffenburger, Christine Schwarz.
Sunday, June 6, marked the date of the annual Baccalaureate.
Mr. Thunder played the processional of "Pomp and Chivalry" and "Processional." Reverend Donald Hughes of St. Stephens Catholic Church followed with the Invocation. After the opening prayer; Dr. James Spieer of The First Congregational Church read from the Scriptures.
Reverend R. K. Wobbe of the United Church of Christ preached the sermon, "The Lamp of Faith." The assembly then sang "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God." Dr. Spieer then pronounced the Benediction.
