Personal achievement and accomplishment besides numerous honors have been received by Jim Hanselmann '71, one of the most celebrated athletes in Maine West's history. By accumulating seven varsity letters, Hanselmann has proved his athletic ability over the four year span of his high school years.
A three year letterman in baseball, Jim has played a variety of positions, has batted above the normal average for the team, and has always given that little extra that makes him invaluable to any high school coach or team.
Besides baseball, Jim has also lettered twice in basketball. Before being sidelined in the later stages of the season, Jim played guard and was one of the best defensive players for the bucketmen this past season.
Dennis Willison '71 feels, "He was a good playmaker and in many games held the team together. He, in my opinion, is one of the most talented athletes in the history of Maine West."

Playing offense and defense besides participating on all of the specialty teams is a tough road to haul. During the past year, Jim played almost the entire time of every game and literally proved his worth as an outstanding competitor and participant.
Bob McAndrews '71, a member of this year's varsity football squad, exclaims Jim to be "one of the most hardworking ballplayers and competitors endowed with great hustle, ability, and desire." As a gesture of his ability, Jim was selected to the All‑Conference football squad for the past year.
The future, at the moment, sees Jim entering Western Illinois University in the fall. A B student throughout his four years here at Maine West, Jim has decided to enter the College of Business Education at the Macomb campus.
In terms of sports Jim has decided to give up playing football and basketball on the college level so he can devote his full ability to baseball. When graduation night rolls around, many athletes will leave Maine West and with them will go Jim Hanselmann, a true athlete, participant, and competitor.
