Athletes Provide Fans With
Thrilling, Winter

One of the most successful winter athletes in the past year was gymnast Tom Jackson '71. Tom was the number one sidehorse man for Maine West's varsity musclemen. Tom was so successful that he made it all the way to the state gymnastics finals.

Tom ended the discussion with an interesting flashback from the state meet, "I was the only kid in state history to get off the sidehorse flat on my head. An exciting end to a season."

For the last two years, Skip Parent '71 has been the most consistent point winner on Maine West's varsity swim team. Skip says, "I owe a lot to Mr. Pete Andersen, the head swim coach."

Skip swims the 200‑yard individual medley and also the 100‑yard butterfly. He plans to continue his swimming at Triton College. Skip is planning on majoring in physical education or auto technology. Skip has a good chance to gain fame in college, where he could very possible break five national junior college records.

One of the main reasons that the Maine West varsity basketball team were co‑conference champs this year in the Central Suburban League was the performance of Tom Kummer '71 on the basketball court. Tom was starting forward for Coach Gaston Freeman's cagers this year.

After graduation Tom is planning on going to the University of Northern Colorado on a basketball scholarship and major in business and physical education.

Bruce Beam has been one of the most successful wrestlers in the history of Maine West. Bruce has qualified for state competition for two consecutive years ‑ each year in a different weight class.

Bruce wrestled at 98 pounds in his junior year. After a near perfect season, Bruce ended his junior year with a fantastic third in state. Then Bruce jumped to the 105 pound class in his senior year.
