'Crown of Victory' Dance Ends
Homecoming Week '70-'71

Homecoming '70‑'71 ended September 26 with the annual dance; this year entitled, "The Crown of Victory." Jill Whetham, who was crowned queen at the assembly the day before, was presented at the dance ending a memorable week for many.

Although rain stopped the parade through town, the floats and the queen and her court were presented before the varsity game Saturday afternoon. The Junior Class won the float competition for the third year in a row, with the freshmen placing second, and the seniors placing third.

Originality, neatness, and consistency with the theme, "Western Union Victory‑Gram" were the main points the five judges based their decision on.

The judges included Mr. Lambert, president of the Maine West Dad's Club; Mrs. Wagner, president of the Maine West Mother's Club; and Mr. Bonaguidi, a Des Plaines alderman.

Also included in the judging were Mr. Spiegler, of the Spiegler's department store; and Mr. Corey, deputy fire chief.

Mr. Randall Rayborn, sponsor of Student Council, summed up Homecoming weekend by saying, "This has been the best Homecoming I've seen in the four years I've been here. Class sponsors, chairmen of Student Council committees, and participation of the students in general showed the real spirit of Homecoming."

Larry Portman '71, president of Student Council, commented ‑ Homecoming this year provided a welcome release from the tensions of every day school life. I believe those people who participated in the celebrations enjoyed themselves.

Many other people had things to say about Homecoming.

Claire Roberston '73 ‑ I enjoyed the dance, but the court didn't get enough recognition.

Jody Leer '74 ‑ I liked the queen being announced at the assembly better than at the game.

Ellen Nygaard '71 ‑ It came on me so fast I didn't even know what was happening.

Wendy Hansen '72 ‑ I am glad we won the game, and I am even more glad we juniors placed first for the third year.

Greg Fife '71 ‑ I thought the game was very exciting. I'm glad we won because we haven't won Homecoming in two years.

Paul Zulaski '73 ‑ The buttons were too expensive.

Phil Vaccarello '73 ‑ I wish they would of made the last quarter of the sophomore game two minutes longer so we could have won.

Ralph Gilbertsen '72 ‑ Homecoming this year was the best that it's been in the three years I've been here.

Robert Hicklin '73 ‑ It was wet and cold.

Vicki Letto '71 ‑ The only thing rewarding about the whole thing was the band and they played off key.

Donna Musselman '71 ‑ It is good to have a group like the Mead because it attracts more, even though they should have played softer and slower dances.

Bruce Terry '73 ‑ It was bad weather, but I'm glad varsity won and I wish we would have won too.

Karen Gutzmer '74‑I thought it turned out pretty good, but I hope it will turn out better next year.
