Corps Is Named

Twirling Corps has announced its members for this year. They are Diane Becker '71, Julie Ehnert '71, Betty Minter '72, Ginger Reinhart '73, Rita Riegraf '73, Sue Tipton '73, and Jo Carol Rutherford '74. Mr. Gerald Hug is the sponsor.


Legends were on sale in the cafeteria this past week. The price is $5 now, or $3 now and $2.50 in the spring. Students are urged to purchase their yearbooks now, so a definite number may be given to the publisher.


Choraliers for 1970-71 have been announced by Mr. Donald Lord. After two weeks of tryouts, Mr. Grant Anderson and Mr. Lord picked the people whose voices blended well together.

Sopranos are Rene Hoekstra '71, Jeanne Miller '71, Kristy Sove '71, Nancy Spiegler '71, Shirley Frank '72, and Carla Krebs '72 as the alternate.

Altos are Gloria DeFranco '71, Sharon Siegfort '71, Katie Young '71, Cheryl Boeckenhaur '72, and Jackie Miner '71 as alternate.

Chosen as tenors are Jan Jarvis '71 and Guy Apa '71. Steve Mirro '72 is the alternate. John Behnke '71, Doug Kuite '71, Ned Peterson '71, Ben Adair '72, and Tom Parker '72 are the basses.

United Nations Week will celebrate its twenty‑fifth anniversary October 19‑25. Maine West will have the Swedish Vice Consul, UIf Scholdstrom, as a featured speaker in recognition of Sweden and the United Nation's attempts at world peace.


Maine West's marching band, under the direction of Mr. Gerald Hug and Mr. Robert Kuite, accepted an invitation from Northwestern University to appear at its fifteenth High School Band Day, Saturday, October 3. Joining more than 5,000 teenage musicians from 64 different Illinois high schools, Maine West participated in the half‑time show at the Northwestern‑Southern Methodist University game.

Under the direction of Mr. John Paynter and Mr. James Sudduth, the band performed such numbers as "Americans, We March," "Gentle on My Mind," and the Northwestern University Alma Mater.


School will not be in session Monday, October 12, in honor of Columbus Day. Students will return on Tuesday, October 13.
