Suffering misfortune in their first three encounters, the varsity soccer team finally broke their streak of losses. By tying Maine North 2‑2, they now stand with an 0‑3‑1 record.
The action never quelled as the two teams fought back and forth desperately for control of the game. Dave Kail '71, played an outstanding game as he set up both of West's goals with perfect assists.
Tuesday, October 6, was the next home match for the Warriors. They took on Maine North again in a grudge match slated for a 4:30 p.m. starting time. The match against Maine South has been set up for Tuesday, October 27, also here at Maine West.
The frosh‑soph squad also started the season on a dismal note. They bowed to Wheaton Central, Quigley South, and Lake Forest before they could turn the tide. But turn the tide they did. They started by defeating New Trier West 2‑1, continued with Maine North 3‑0, and then smothered New Trier East 5‑2.

Coach Tom Nystorm is very pleased with his frosh‑soph squad. He stated, "We are putting more emphasis on the frosh‑soph, and they are responding quite well. They have continually been hitting the open man with passes, and we have been getting the goals we need to win."
Rudy Schroeder '73 kicked in three goals in their win over New Trier East. Commenting on the team, he said, "We have got a fantastic team that plays together as a unit on the field."
Cesare Bratta '73 states "We have great coaches who really know what they are doing. They demand the best from everyone, and we try to give all we can all the time." Bratta is considered to be one of the most outstanding offensive players on the squad.
The future looks brighter for both squads as they continue to work out in their practices. The team seems to be improving, and the spirit of the members of the team has reached a new plateau.
