SC Revision Board Put into Practice

Student Council has a policy which was recently put into use concerning student revision. The clause in the constitution reads as follows:

"After accumulating substantial evidence concerning school policies, administration decisions, educational inadequacies, counseling decisions, plauditable campus activity, or issues backed by a united student opinion, any member of the student body may introduce a motion to determine, by a majority vote, the necessity and significance of the evidence to further Student Council action.

"Should the motion on such evidence be found significant by a majority of Student Council, a committee shall be formed of five members of Student Council appointed by the originator of the motion, who shall preside. This committee shall report to Student Council."

Such was the case when representative Ellen Nygaard '71 was asked to bring up a case involving a student who was removed from her class without the case going through proper channels. The girl had been truant several days before, and she stated to Ellen that her teacher felt she was missing too many classes. She was called down by her counselor and placed in a study hall.

"My committee gathered information; and if the subject would not have been resolved, we would have gone to the dean. He then would have discussed it with the teacher and made a decision," said Ellen. "But the girl has been returned to class."
