"A temporary name for the rejuvenation of the Twirling Corps" is what Mr. Gerald Hug, music teacher, termed this year's new Show Corps. Recently chosen on Wednesday, October 4, the girls were picked on the basis of their marching ability, dancing ability, and their general appearance.

No definite date has been set for the days of the girls' first performance, as they are just beginning to practice together as a group. They will be performing at halftimes. The Music Department sponsors the Show Corps.

The girls are Kathi Ingrish '73, Debbie Buntenbach '74, Betty Sloan '72, Debbie Kurcab '71, Linda Sarlo '71, Vicki Richardson '74, Cheryl Kempiak '72, and Mary Anne Makuch '72.

Also chosen were Barb Kulig '74, Connie Gross '74, Debi Brodd '73, Toma Surmenkow '74, Pat Fielder '73, Bernadette Binder '74, Grace Wright '74, and Cindy Atkinson '74.

Others were Debbie Maday '74, Joan Bevacqua '74, Mary Sharbaugh '73, Claudia Weed '73, Natalie Nord '74, Karen McGavin '74, Claudia Bischof '74, and Daryl Larson '74.

Anyone with musical ability who is participating in a music course is eligible to be in the 1970‑71 Maine West Jazz Band. Currently directed by Mr. Hug, the Jazz Band has been performing at Maine West since the school opened its doors in 1959.

Jim Sedlack '71, student director, says of Jazz Band, "It is more of a show group with flash." It performs upon request, and the band's first performance of this year was at the coronation ceremonies for Homecoming. The Jazz Band is looking forward to a big performance at Oak Lawn in February and a tentative date following that in Wisconsin.

"The students like Jazz Band because it is loud, and it has a good beat," remarked Marji Cameron '71, a member of the band.

Members of the Jazz Band number 19. Included are Phil Fischer '73, Dale Pischke '72, Dan Doerschner '71, Don Jakesch '72, and Steve Kreiling '72, all of whom play the sax.

Other members are Marji Cameron and Val Koehler '71 who play the flute. Those who play the trumpet are Jim Sedlack '71, Dave Judy '71, Dave Eitel '72, Steve Ware '73, and Steve Bullmer '71.

The trombone section of the Jazz Band includes Rich Peterson '72, Dave Ziegler '72, and Fred Tennyson '73. Also included in the band are Don Hudson '72, baritone, Marc Enggas '72, percussion, Doug Kuite '71, guitar and bass, and Peggy Winkelman '71, piano.
