Rated with the top five in state, the Maine West cross-country runners have really been going at it. They have mowed down all but two of their many opponents and have notched seven shutouts with a good chance for a few more.
On October 2, Maine West took on the Glenbrook South Titans and shut out their frosh team while defeating their sophomores 16‑47 and their varsity 18‑43.
The October 6 meet at Glenbrook North brought victory again for West as they defeated North's frosh, sophomore, and varsity runners by scores of 25‑32, 21‑38, and 15‑50, respectively.
Niles North went down to Maine West by shutout scores on the sophomore and varsity levels and was defeated by West's frosh by a score of 17‑46. For the frosh Dunavant took first, Oland second, Farmer third, Johnson fourth, and Andrews sixth.
The sophomores took the first five with Barbour, Sedlack, Frost, Klebe, and Myers. The varsity, with their shutout, placed St. John, Anderson, Kami, Kovar, and Wright first through fifth. Wright managed to keep up with Kovar, despite two spills.

October 10 was another field day for West as they smashed Elk Grove 15‑50 on the frosh level, 15‑47 soph and 15‑50 for the varsity, making the total number of shutouts five.
Shutout number six came along October 13 as Maine's cross‑country team skunked New Trier West's frosh and varsity and beat their sophomores 16‑46.
October 16 brought cross-country's seventh shutout for the varsity and a smashing defeat for Niles West. The varsity got in the first 19 with Watkins first, Long second, St. John third, Kamin fourth, and Forkins fifth.
Tony Winder led the pack for the sophomores with Barbour third, Brad Frost fourth, Sedlack fifth and Kiebe sixth. The first five for the frosh were Dunavant, Paul Frost, Oland, Farmer, and Johnson.
Maine West's second defeat was in an invitational with 20 schools attending. They placed second. Fremd took the meet with a total of 60 points, and second‑place Maine West with a total of 79 points, a possibility of over 500.
Districts are coming up shortly, and soon after that, state. Maine West hopes to get a number of their top runners in this year.
