Question: Do you think the pass‑fail system would be better than the present grading system? Why or why not?

Sue Larson '72 ‑ "Yes, with our present grading system there's too much strain put on students. Also, with the pass-fail system, the student is working for self‑satisfaction, not for a letter that supposedly symbolizes intelligence."

Dave Congalton '71 ‑ "I don't like it because it doesn't measure the student's ability. I could get a pass in every class, but that wouldn't tell me how well I'm doing in a class.

Linda Ver Merris '74 ‑ "The old way gives one a feeling of accomplishment."

Barb Kulig '74 ‑ "No, because it wouldn't be accurate. If you had one point below the passing system, you would fail; but if you had one point below a grade with our present system, the teacher would usually give you the point."

Cyndie Suchomel '73 ‑ "Yes, because you work at your own speed. You do the work you are able to do, and you don't have to beat your brains out doing work that isn't up to your standards just to try and keep up with the other students."

Joanne Wanegar '74 ‑ "I like the way we have it now because it would do away with the honor roll system so that the kids who deserve the credit will not get it.,,

Deb Peterson '73 ‑ "The system might have its good points, but with no incentive for grades I wouldn't work as hard. I'd rather see a letter grade to show how hard I worked."
