Ending the season with three consecutive losses, Maine West's Warrior football squad finished in sixth place in the Central
Suburban League. In the past three weeks Maine West lost to New Trier West, 22‑3, Niles West, 20‑7, and archrivals Maine South, by a 27‑8 score.
A power failure postponed last Friday night's game to Saturday afternoon. Since the Warrirs could not win the championship, they could still end the year on a satisfactory note by bombing Maine South. But the Hawks had the same idea.
They drew first blood in the opening quarter and led at the half, 14‑8. The Warrior score was in the second quarter when Kieth Moranz '71 scored on a 1‑yard run. Nick Fininis '71 ran in the two extra points. That was it for the afternoon, though, as the Hawks scored some more in the second half for the final score of 27‑8. It may be interesting to note that Maine South drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Two weeks ago the Indians of Niles West blew a hole in the middle of the Warrior defense. They consistently ran up the middle with the ball and ran the score to 14‑0 at the half. Jim Hanselmann '71 opened the second half for Maine West with a 90‑yard runback of the kickoff. Jeff Liggett '72 kicked the extra point to cut the lead in half at 14‑7. The Warriors began to gain momentum under the running of Frank Mitchell '72, the lefty quarterback. But when Niles West intercepted a fourth quarter pass they broke the spell and sailed on for a 20‑7 victory.

October 24 was the beginning of the end for the Warriors as they lost to the conference champions, the New Trier West Cowboys. The first time they laid their hands on the ball they started a touchdown drive. Their superb defense and o f I e n s e helped them to a 22‑3 win. The Warrior score came in the second quarter when Liggett kicked in his first field goal of the year, a 28‑yard shot. At the time it narrowed the score to 8‑3.
On the average this year Maine West was outscored 19-9. Their final record was 2-4-1.
