Dear Editor:
Recently an incident occurred that has been of great concern to not only the V‑Show cast but also members of Concert Choir and Concert Band. This incident is an illustration of the double standard that exists at Maine West.
In a certain Social Science class, if a student cuts class nothing much will be said; however, if this same student should arrive late through no fault of his own or with a legitimate excuse (for instance his gym teacher will not issue passes), he will be subject to a detention or misconduct report. In this particular case the student knew he would be unable to attend any detention after school due to his active participation in V-Show. Instead of merely cutting like several other students he signed a pass for himself. Unfortunately several other students have been caught doing the same and no such severe punishment was imposed upon them.
The crime was discovered and immediately brought before the dean and rightly so. However, the Music Department took it upon themselves in order to "preserve their good name," to eliminate this individual from the Music Department for two weeks. This included V‑Show, Concert Choir, Concert Band, and Choraliers.
This punishment affects not only the individual but the four groups mentioned above. This punishment is not only too severe, but also definitely unjustified. Certainly three days is sufficient punishment for such an offense which should be only administered by the dean's office.
Thank you,

Dear Editor:
We, Maine West students until November 30, were very disappointed in the Maine West staff in their attitude toward future Maine North students. Because we were presently enrolled in Maine West, we should have been treated as such. We were not allowed to vote for the Homecoming queen, not allowed to vote for class officers, and we were not told of the daily activities through the Student Council. We followed the Maine West rules and the Maine West daily schedule; therefore, we should have been treated as Maine West students.
Sincerely,
a Maine West student until November 30,
Chris Smith
Dear Editor:
Were their actions done in good faith or in bad faith? Was anyone or anything hurt? I'm referring to the chicken incident at the football game between West and South.
The answers to these questions would depend upon the individual and how he feels. Some probably feel they were right in their actions while others would feel they were wrong.
But these are not the answers one should derive from the incident. In our society everything is based on whether it is good or bad in relationship to the community, country, or to the world. This is one of the major factors for the turmoil that our country is involved in at the present time.
When thinking about the incident, decide whether or not the persons involved were doing things in terms of disrupting and injuring or in terms of creativity. I feel it was creativity. No one was hurt least of all any of the participants of the game. It even gave the people in the stands something to cheer about.
Creativity. Maybe this is a word that everyone should become acquainted with. It might help them to understand.
