Uncork Two Victories Away

Led by Skip Parent '71, the varsity swimming team defeated Proviso West by the score of 66‑29. Individual winners were Skip Parent in the 200‑yard individual medley, Larry Bierwirth '73, Don Hudson '72 in the butterfly, Eric Dahl '71 in the 400‑yard free style, and Dave Dettman '72 in the 200‑yard free style. Steve Dueball '72 also placed second in the breaststroke, and both relay teams won.

On the sophomore level the swimming team beat Proviso West by the score of 54‑45. Garyt Dahl was the bright spot of the meet with two individual wins. Against Proviso West on Wednesday, November 25, the freshman team did not fair too well as they lost by the score of 53‑43. The standouts in the meet were Paul Dyer and Duane Peterson.

In the meet against Waukegan on Saturday, November 28, the varsity squad won by the score of 66‑29. Individual winners were Skip Parent, Eric Dahl in the 400‑yard free style, Dave Dettman in the 200‑yard free style, and Paul Stenstorm in the breaststroke with Steve Dueball in second.

Both relay teams also won. They consist of Larry Bierwirth, Steve Dueball, Don Hudson, Ken Brown or Russ Zage. Meanwhile the divers are not up to par yet. On the sophomore level the team beat Waukegan in the last relay by the score of 54 ‑ 41. This year's new coach, Mr. Ken Howenstine, feels, "The standouts for this year's team will be sophomores Garyt Dahl, Chuck Essig, Jeff Lehmann, Doug Meister, and Rick Weaver."

Also in the Waukegan meet on November 28, the freshman won 48‑47 in the last relay. Freshman Coach Tom Nystrom sees Duane Peterson and Paul Dyer as his standouts for this year's team.

Varsity Coach Pete Anderson thinks, "This year's team is better than last year's whose record was 8‑6." He also feels, "New Trier West and Deerfield will win the conference with Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, Maine West, and Maine South all battling for the third place." So far the spirit has been high with no complaints about swimming four miles a day. Coach Anderson feels, "The strong events will be the 200‑yard individual medley, breaststroke, and the 200 and 400‑yard free style.
