Maine West Club News

With the holiday season approaching, many school clubs and organizations are trying to promote the Christmas spirit both in and around Maine West.

The Future Teachers' Club spent Wednesday evening at the Brookwood Convalescent Home. They made cookies and cupcakes which were distributed to the patients along with checker and card games.

Four members of the novice Debate Team celebrated Christmas a little early when they took third place in the Thornridge High School Debate Tournament. Freshmen  Vicki Richardson, Mary Button, Wayne Stevens, and Eric Swanson competed against 22 other schools to take the third place honors.

Cheering at games will be more organized, thanks to the newly formed Tribe. Sitting in a special section, members of the Tribe will have special cheers and yells to lead the rest of the audience in supporting the Maine West teams. Officers include seniors Jim Krum polz, president; Ken Freer, vice-president; Steve Forkins, secretary and Gary Navratil, treasurer.

A new club is being formed at Maine West in time for Christmas. Known as the Non-Smokers Club, members will learn the hazards of smoking and will attempt to warn others of the dangers. Anyone interested in this club should contact Mrs. Laura Bachman.
