Tonight the Maine West varsity wrestlers will try and even their conference record in the Central Suburban League to two wins and two losses as they travel to Deerfield to meet the Deerfield Warriors at 6:30. Then tomorrow afternoon at 2 Maine West will host Evanston in a non‑conference meet.
At Glenbrook North on December 18, West lost their first conference meet of the season, as the Spartans from Glenbrook defeated West 40‑8. West took an early lead of 8‑5, but that was the end of the Warriors' scoring as the Spartans went on to win every match after that.
On December 19 West lost a close meet to the Wheeling Wildcats of the Mid‑Suburban League Conference. The final score of the non‑conference meet was Wheeling 23, Maine West 18.
During the Christmas holiday the Warrior grapplers entered the Lake Park Invitational and placed fifth out of eight teams with a total of 53 points. Arlington won the invitational with 95 points. Taking first place honors for West were Bruce Beam '71 and Ken Gustafson '71. Beam won his championship 10‑6 at 105 pounds, and Gustafson took the crown at 112 pounds as he won 2‑0. Taking third place honors for West were Brad Vance '72 at 126 pounds and John Herter '71 at heavyweight.

Last Friday night at Maine West the Warriors came up against another tough Glenbrook school. This time Maine West was beaten by Glenbrook South 35‑12.
Only three Warrior wrestlers were able to pick up points. Beam did at 105 pounds as he pinned his opponent at 5:34. Jim De Nicolo '72 picked up two team points as he battled his man to a scoreless tie at 185 pounds. Herter picked up five team points at heavyweight as he won on a forfeit, when his opponent suffered an injury and couldn't continue to wrestle. However, Glenbrook South still crushed the Warriors 35‑12.
Last Saturday the Warriors traveled to Forest View for a quadrangular. Maine West placed fourth out of four teams. Taking first place for the Warriors were Herter at heavyweight and Beam, who remained the only undefeated Warrior at 105 pounds. Carl Sjostrand '72 took a second place at 138 pounds.
