Boast 7-1 Record

Upping their conference record to. 6‑0, the Warriors defeated second place Deerfield 78‑73 on Friday, January 15.

After taking a 4‑3 first quarter lead the Warriors never trailed thereafter. At the end of the quarter they led 20‑13. The Warriors outscored Deerfield in the second quarter 16‑13 and took a 36‑26 half‑time lead.

At the finish of the third quarter the Warriors led 57‑48. George Woodley '71 pumped in four baskets in the last three minutes.

On Saturday the Warriors traveled to Niles West and trounced their hosts by a score of 89‑74.

Maine jumped to a 28‑14 first quarter lead. In the second quarter Niles moved to a full court press in hopes of slowing the Warriors. It failed as the Warriors upped their lead to 48‑31 at the half.

With two minutes life in the third quarter Niles pulled within 11 points, but Maine upped the lead to 68‑53 at the end of the third quarter. Neither of the defenses were very strong as the teams played even in the fourth quarter.

Kummer led all scorers with 30 and was followed by Willison's 29 and Woodley's 10.

Traveling to Maine South on January 23, the Warriors came up empty as they fell to the Hawks by a score of 70‑65.

The Warrior downfall was aided by cold shooting, missed free throws, and turnovers. Maine West led 19‑18 at the end of the first quarter. At the half the score was 33‑33. South took a 48‑‑4 lead into the fourth quarter. In the final four minutes West had five great chances to pull even but were foiled each time.

Traveling to Niles North on January 29, the Warriors ran into a stall but still whipped Niles 61‑35.

After the Warriors took a 2‑0 lead, Niles began its stall which lasted almost one minute and 30 seconds. A layup and a free throw gave them a 3‑2 lead. Each time North got the ball they went to the stall. Maine led at the end of the first quarter 11‑7.
