Gymnasts Improve, Top Deerfield

Warrior gymnasts failed to awaken from their sleepy season again last week as Niles West brought them down still one more peg in the loss column. The team effort brought them over the 100 mark, scoring 102, but not enough to overpower the 112 of the opponents.

Coach Sid Drain made several comments about his team. "They've been improving. They started at 80 and have been up to 106."

In non‑conference competition, Prospect's Knights defended their state ranked reputation by chalking up a 122.29 score. Maine West, at their best, fell behind with 106.03.

The following afternoon, January 16, Deerfield was tripped up by the victorious Warrior musclemen. Falling below the 100 mark with only 90.1, it was enough to score a win in the conference meet.

Maine West was shamed by the rivalrous Hawks at Maine South 125.35 to 99.57. Sophomores, however, edged the men in red 33.9 to 29.2. South is the six‑time holder of the conference title.

Discussing the problems the team faces, Coach Drain said, "They're not consistent." When asked what position the Warriors will take, he said, "Well, it won't be last; I'll tell you that. We should probably finish fifth. Maybe third or fourth."
