An old Chinese fable was the theme used for this year's speech contest play. "Tu Tze‑Chun" was the play derived from a story of a man who loses all his money.
Directed by Mr. Robert Norris, the cast worked on the play for about three weeks before the District Speech Tournaments held at Niles West on February 13.
The reconstruction of the play resembled that used in the theater of the "absurd." Scenery was extremely minimal and simple. Costumes were also plain, and the entire cast wore the same things throughout the play.
Obviously, it was the message of the play which was the important factor: ". . all I want to do is lead a decent and honest life."

"Tu Tze‑Chun" involved several students and hours of long work. Involved directly in performing were Bret Barnard '73, Sharon Gragg '72, Mark Kaneen '71, Bob Konopacz '73, Heidi Hanson '72, Frank Mrozek '73, Vicki Letto '71, and Colleen Kelly '72.
The stage crew consisted of Kevin Kaitis '71, Nancy Meyer '73, Barb Panek '74, and Joanne Jensen '73. Make‑up was supervised by Joni Huff '73.
"It was an unusual experience," said student director, Diane Gatsis '72.
As Mr. Norris earlier stated, "It's not whether you win or lose, but what you can get out of it for yourself."
