Though the legality of abortions in Illinois is still uncertain, students wished to express their opinions on this question: Should abortions be legalized?
Bonnie Scheiden '72 ‑ I don't think they should have made the abortion laws in the first place. If a mother doesn't want to have a kid, she shouldn't fool around.
Janice Marino '74 ‑ No, because if a girl becomes pregnant it is her responsibility to take care of her child; and if she has an abortion, that means she really doesn't care.
Sheila Jackson '74 ‑ I think that the abortion laws shouldn't have been completely destroyed, but I think they should have been more lenient with people with the possibility of having a deformed child or if they couldn't afford to have a child.
Mary Fullen '74 ‑ I'm against abortions because they are morally wrong. The unborn baby has as much right to life as each of us.
Jan Day '74 ‑ I'm in favor only because anybody who would go for it would stop having any more unwanted children in the world. An abortion is dangerous for the mother.

Jan Polito '72 ‑ Abortion should be legalized because everyone has the right to get stoned.
Pete Scelsa '73 ‑ I think it all depends on the situation if the family can't support the child or take care of it, it should be legal for the mother to have an abortion.
Neil Sargent '71 ‑ I'm in favor of nullifying the abortion laws, because it's their own business if she wants an abortion.
Maria Brunetti '73 ‑ I think it is wrong if the girl gets herself involved in spite of the circumstances, because it is taking a human life. Only in certain instances should abortions be legal.
Garry Holub '72 ‑ I'm in favor of it. If the parents are going to send the child to a home, or if they are unable to support it, why have it?
Sue Massillo '72 ‑ If someone gets raped, why should she have to suffer because they won't legalize abortions? She shouldn't have to go through all the pain of having a child that was accidental.
