Cindermen Lose, St. John Shines

Holding their first triangular meet of the year, Maine hosted Glenbrook North and Niles North on February 4.

Jack St. John '71 took an early lead in the two mile and breezed to a first place finish. St. John also came back to grab a first in the mile. In the 880‑yard run Don Anderson '71 took a first, and Tim Watkins '71 captured a first in the 440‑yard run. Wayne Gyssler '71 picked up a first in the pole vault.

In the second dual meet of the season the cindermen were host to Lyons of LaGrange. The Warriors were defeated by a score of 78.5 to 53.5.

Once again St. John took a first in the two-mile. Kevin Wright '72 and Ken Kovar '71 placed second and third. Tom Duntemann '71 and Anderson finished second and third in the 880. Jeff Duff '71 grabbed first in the long jump, and

St. John grabbed another first in the Mile. Steve Forkins '71 finished third in the mile. Mark Mayer '71 and Fred Hildreth '73 finished second and third in the shot put.

February 20 found the cindermen traveling to the Proviso West Invitational. The Warriors finished the meet with 12.5 points which was good for eighth place. Twelve teams were entered.

St. John captured first in his specialty, the two‑mile. He also broke the meet record and the track record by eight seconds. St. John also came back to finish a strong third in the mile. Dunternann took a fifth in the 880‑yard run. He was running a strong second until he was tripped near the finish.

Duff also picked up a trophy when he tied for third place in the long jump.
