Five Rejoin West Staff

Five teachers have rejoined the Maine West faculty after a leave of absence. The teachers include Mrs. Judy Beck. Mr. Dan Carlson, Mrs. Cynthia Schaulis, Mr. Don Smith, and Miss Marcia Storey.

Mrs. Judy Beck, Girls' Physical Education teacher, left for the last quarter of last year's school year to have her baby. The baby, David Edward, was born Tuesday, June 15, and weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

Mrs. Cynthia Schaulis, English teacher, left at the end of the first quarter, November 1, also to have her baby. A baby girl, Monique Danielle, was born on Saturday, February 13.

"I'm very happy to be back. The teachers on the staff are all so nice," was Mr. Dan Carlson's comment upon his return to Maine West. He was away on eight months active duty in the Naval Reserve.
Six months of his tour of duty were spent in Memphis, Tennessee, and the other two in Pennsylvania. Mr. Carlson teaches physical science here at Maine. He is coach of the freshman football B team and head coach of the sophomore baseball team.

Miss Marcia Storey, Business Education teacher, also took a leave of absence to go back to school. She received her Master of Science in Business Education degree from Northern Illinois University at DeKalb

Mr. Don Smith, Spanish teacher, spent a year in Puebla, Mexico, at the University of the Americas. Mr. Smith is in his ninth year of teaching Spanish here at Maine West.

His wife and two children accompanied him to Mexico. While in Puebla, he and his wife had a baby daughter. This, Mr. Smith felt, was his most important experience there, though the hospital was not as clean as hospitals here.
