| "To See Yourself" is the theme for Maine West's annual Variety Show which will open Thursday, November 18, in the auditorium and run through Saturday, November 20. Tryouts for the Variety show were held after school September 7-17 in the auditorium. Over 100 acts tried out including dance routines, music, comedy acts, and script readings. The student staff judged the acts, and a total of 20 acts in all were chosen. Faculty director, Mr. Ronald Mills, along with student director, Diane Gatsis '72, hope to have this year's V-Show be "a totally unique and different Variety Show." Diane heads the student staff which includes Bret Barnard '73, stage manager, along with Bob Konopaz '73, who will be the assistant stage manager. They are joined by Rita Wes-terfeld '72, costume designer, and Lynn Hansen '72, art director. The job of light designer has been filled by Rick Thompson '72, and JoAnn Huff '73 is in charge of make-up. Jo Ann Jenson '73 is props chairman and both Gayle Kremers '72 and Steve Kreiling '72 will be music directors. The choreography will be done by Lori Anderson '72. |
The faculty staff includes Mr. Robert Norris who is sets designer and Mr. Robert Pelikan who is in charge of set construction. Mr. Robert Kuite will handle the music, and the costume designer for this year will be Mr. Eugene Patrizi. Mr. Robert Soltysik will be light designer, and Miss Susan Koester will be the faculty choreographer. This year there will be a series of 1-2 minute skits entitled "Feiffer's People" by Jules Feiffer, the author of Carnal Knowledge, which will be used as fill-ins between acts. "Feiffer's People" are skits which are satires on society. The skits include 18 actors: 11 boys and 7 girls - one folksinger, one dancer, four instrumentalists and four soloists. Diane said that the reason why "Feiffer's People" are being used is "to keep the show together and add variety. "This also enables us to have greater control over what acts and actors are used. Without using 'Feiffer's People.' the directors would have to choose acts to fill the show, whether or not those acts or actors were good. By using 'Feiffer's People' the directors have the opportunity to choose the best acts and actors." |
